At the moment I just finished up doing some Brazilian Jujitsu and on the way home from training I was reflecting on the Easter message and what it means to humanity. First and foremost if you are a Christian then Easter is one of the most significant days of the year. Easter we have the death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus received a criminal’s death even though he did nothing wrong. But three days later he rose again, defeating death and reconnecting humanity to God
Read about it in Luke Chapters 22-24 here <==
But some of you reading may not be Christians so I do not want to over spiritualize everything. Let’s look at the person of Jesus. Whether you are religious or not we can learn a lot from Jesus. It is a known proven fact that Jesus walked the earth, hung out with the disciples and did many great miracles. One of the most amazing things Jesus says is that “he came to serve, not to be served.” (Matthew 20:28, Mark 10:45).
Jesus came to serve people.
He came to help people.
He came to set people free.
Free from religion and free from sin.
But he came to serve.
Jesus came with an attitude to serve and help people.
My question to you today is this. Do you come to serve people, or to be served??
Are you a servant or to you feel like you are a master. Do you only do things for yourself? Do you help people?
Zig Ziglar, one of the worlds leading leadership expert has a famous saying that goes something like this. “The more people you help achieve their dreams, the more people will help you achieve your dreams.”
I love this saying. The underlying message of what Zig is saying is this:
The more you help people, the more people will help you!!
It is not karma, or anything over spiritual. It is actually pretty simple. The more you go out of your way to help people the more they will see your heart and kindness and help you. Everyone has someone in their life (such as a friend or relative), who bends over backwards to help people. I have found that with people like this I am more than happy to help them out if I can. Simply because they have helped me on so many occasions. I understand that there are some people who help you just so you are indebted to them, but this is not the help I am referring to. I am talking about helping people with no strings attached.
I know so many people who struggle though life because they only ever do things that they want to do, they always put themselves above others.
They turn up to training for themselves. They never help anyone unless it benefits them. They eat at only the places they want to eat. They only watch the movies that they want to watch. They never or encourage anyone or go out of their way for anyone. It is all about them and what you can do for them. With these type of people I have found that no one helps them, because the help is always one way and they are selfish.
Jesus calls humanity to be selfless not selfish.
If you read all throughout Jesus’s ministry he is travelling around helping people, serving people and doing good to mankind. Whether you are a Christian or not we can learn a lot from Jesus and what he did 2000 years ago. We learn that through helping others and having a servant heart we can change the world.
When the church I attend was finally built the Pastor said this in his official address, “If the underlying message of christianity is to love God and love (or serve) people (Matthew 22 verse 37-39) then bring on more churches.”
Over this Easter weekend and beyond lets love people. Lets be like Jesus and serve people unconditionally. Lets have an expectation of serving others rather than having a mentality of them serving us. Lets build people up with our words, not tear them down. Lets love people with our actions, not do things for people so they are indebted to us. Lets be like Jesus and love people, it will not only brighten someones day, but it will make your life a lot easier.
Have a great week ahead,
PS For those who may not know the Easter story then I encourage you to read about it in Luke Chapter 22- 24 <===
